VALE: PETER GEORGE NELSON Tonight we are feeling sad as we come to terms with the passing of Peter, Husband, Father, Father-in Law, Grandfather, Brother Uncle and Friend. Peter passed away tonight at 8.00pm after a long battle with lung tumours and more recently brain tumours . His determination to win was great as always and the humour and friendship enduring. His fight with cancer should not define this man who besides all the great family attributes as husband and best friend to Marcia, father to Melissa, Kirrily and Jo, along with father in law to Mick, Erol and Marty and grandfather to Kyle, Hanna, Marli and Lewis, he was and shall remain a friend, confidant and mentor to many in all walks of life but particularly in motorsport where not only was he for a member, committee man, Club Captain, Secretary and President etc. of PIARC. over many years, but also variously a CAMS State Councillor, National Councillor / Director and member of the numerous CAMS Committees, but was undoubtedly the Father of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix from 1985 onwards. Peter’s roles in the growth of PIARC as a Club and Promoter , Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, Sandown ,Calder Park and the Super Speedway at Thunderdome and various series at Phillip Island and around the country cannot be underestimated, nor can his contribution to officiating both throughout Australia and also in various venues throughout Asia. Whist we are allowed to feel sad, that Peter will not be around in a physical presence any more, I feel glad and proud to have worked, lived and played with this remarkable man for 50 years. Geoff Bull President PIARC
